Ann Walker

April 23, 1931 — February 12, 2020

Philadelphia

On February 12, 2020, after a long and fruitful life, Ann heard her name, grabbed ahold of the outstretched hand and passed into Eternity. She made the entrance of her journey on April 23, 1931 in Birdsnest, Va., as the eldest daughter of George and Mary Lou Ames. Also born to this union were her siblings; George Palmer Ames, Jr, Evelyn Olivia Ames Billups and Davontz Lawrence Ames.

She attended Treherneville Elementary School, North Hampton County High School and later she migrated to Pa in 1949 and attended Beaumont Nursing School, Philadelphia Community College, Harcum College and Chestnut Hill College and enjoyed an enriching thirst for education all throughout her life. She married William Walker, Jr and started her legacy in rearing her children; Felicia (Lawrence) Phelps of Youngstown, Ohio, Robin Walker of Eagleville, Pa , Wanda (Gerald) Samuels of Philadelphia, Pa, William (Priscilla) Walker, III, of Coolville, Ohio, Ann Marie (Darin) Simmons of Spotsylvania, Va. and Eric (Tara) Walker of Manasas, Va. She extended her devotion not only to her family but her membership in living the word as a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church in Virginia and later at LaMott A.M.E. Church in Elkins Park, Pa for over fifty years. She served faithfully in God’s vineyard. Ann was the past president of the Trustees Board, a member of the Stewardess Board, Mary Campbell Missionary Society, Lay Organization, Church School, Courtesy Club, Drama Club, Golden Gems (senior group), Meals on Wheels, Sanctuary Choir, Board of Christian Ed., past Director of the Mildred Walker Scholarship Committee and the Y.P.D. She served as a delegate to the District and Annual Conferences. She was honored at the 150th Church Anniversary in 2003. She served tirelessly on several committees. She was also recognized in the Phila. Tribune for her dedicated service. Ann received many awards accolades, She was a hard worker and her career expanded her love for community service. She was a vested employee of the Philadelphia Free Library and retired after thirty-five years of dedicated services in branches throughout the city as a valued Library Assistant. Her thirst for education and reading led her to seize opportunity and read books of biographies, history, travel and self-study. She instilled a love of reading and a strong work ethic in her children which was passed on to their children and continues through generations. She loved to travel, enjoyed church activities, participating in community activities and offering her wise knowledge and support to anyone in need. Above all, she loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. She leaves her lineage of six children, thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She loved family and enjoyed talking about her parents, siblings, offspring, aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, brother, beloved grandson Shervon and a host of relatives and friends, who embraced her when she stepped into the heavenly gates.

With Ann’s departure she leaves memories that will last forever among her family and friends. Her smile will radiate among the hearts of many. Ann loved helping others always giving God the Glory. Her favorite song: “May the works I‘ve done speak for me. When I’m resting in my grave, there’s nothing to be said; May the works that I’ve done, Speak for me. Sometimes, it seems like I’ve done nothing at all. Lord I’m leaning and depending on you. If I do right you are going see me through, may the works that I’ve done speak for me.”

Ann is resting “...well done thou good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23

We her loving family and friends will continue to build on the strong foundation she established. When the dark clouds roll away, we pray we will see her again in the morning.
