Charlena Standers

Ms. Charlena Dials Standers was born in Darlington S.C. on March 6, 1934 to the late Mr. Cane Dunde and MS. Lena Dials. God called her home to rest on Monday, November 4, 2019 while she resided at the Germantown Homes.

Charlena received her formal education in the Darlington County S.C Public School system and was united in holy matrimony to the late Leroy Larry Standers.

On November 20, 2005 she joined the Canaan Baptist Church in Philadelphia and was baptized shortly after.  She was part of the Simeon Tribe, participated in the Chosen 300 Ministry, and lent a hand in any capacity of ministry asked of her; especially the cooking ministry. She remained a faithful member until she fell ill.

Charlena spent most of her life in Philadelphia, PA, where she was gainfully and joyfully employed by Fox Chase Cancer Center as a Laboratory Animal Technician for 20 years until she retired. While employed, she enjoyed participating in their bowling league. In 2001, she also received her Bayada Nurse Diploma along with constant recognition for her consistent teamwork.

She was an active member in her community and her love for “D” Marion Street. was well known. Her commitment to Marion Street was heartfelt. It overflowed through the block and beyond to anyone who strolled through. Strangers who felt lost would always feel a sense of home with her without judgement.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, family member, neighbor and friend. She was loved for her easy-going spirit to everyone.  To know her was to love her.

Charlena leaves to cherish her memory Henry Dials (Peewee), who proceed her in death:  one daughter, Ms. Cynthia Kinard; three sons, Leroy Jarvis (wife Pam) of Darlington S.C, Theodore Jarvis of Philadelphia PA and Lafayette Standers of Philadelphia PA; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Julia Robertson; a godson, Micheal Monroe;  and a goddaughter, Karlotta Williams; four grandchildren- Brandy Collins (husband Vernon), Perry Clark, Nathaniel Standers-Kinard, Christina Kinard & six great-grandchildren- Nikia Collins, Javers Clark, Korey Collins, Zyaire Kinard, Camille Kinard, and Jeremiah Kinard; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, friends and close neighbors who regrets her passing and celebrate her home going.
