Constance Torrence-Mims

September 16, 1953 — October 15, 2020

Constance L. Mims, lovingly known as Connie was born in Philadelphia PA on September 16th, 1953 to the late Oscar Lee Patterson and Emma Patterson. She was the third of five children. Connie departed this earth on Thursday, October 15th, 2020.

Connie was educated in the Philadelphia school district where she received her GED. She attended Wilford Academy where she graduated and received her cosmetology license.

Connie was married to the late David Torrence with whom she had 5 children with. Later on, she met the love of her life, Phillip E. Mims and had 2 more children. On August 28th, 1982 Phillip and Connie got married at Oak Grove Baptist Church, making her dreams come true.

Connie was a stay at home mom doing volunteer work at the red cross and etc. She began working at Quest Diagnostic which is now called Optum 360 for 21 years as a medical billing rep. She was known to be a great and strong worker, coming to work in the snow, rain, or shine. She worked from home because of the pandemic up to the day before she went into the hospital.

Connie was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, lawyer, and doctor. She was everything for her family. She made sure she answered her phone or called you back. She loved showering people with gifts just as much as she loved receiving them, especially from her husband who spoiled her rotten.

Connie’s favorite things were planning parties and making party favors. She loved shopping online especially on Amazon. She enjoyed watching movies and her favorite T.V. shows. She was always available for her family and friends. She would take pictures off social media of her children and grandchild but would always post the worst picture of you. The family always went to Connie about their problems even though we knew she couldn’t keep a secret. She took care of so many children after her children were grown and out of the house. She helped raise her grandchildren, Jessica, Jasmine, Shwayne Jr., and her nephew Kareem. She was our rock, the matriarch, our QUEEN.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Emma Patterson, her in-laws Robert and Virgie Cook, her brother Oscar (Butchie) Patterson, and 2 of her children Sarah Mims and Melissa Patterson.

Connie leaves to mourn her husband Phillp Mims, children Tanya Patterson, David Patterson, Shwayne Torrence, Tory Torrence, and NiTeisha Mims, two brothers Micheal and Ronald Patterson, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
