Cynthia Hawkins

September 26, 1944 — April 28, 2020

Cynthia Hawkins born September 26, 1944 to the late Lillian Barnes and Robert Sowell In Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Cynthia was married to Marcellus Hawkins August 25, 1976. Cynthia had no children.

Cynthia was educated within the Philadelphia School District, she realized she had a passion for encouraging children to be the best they can be. She later became employed within the same school district at Martin Luther King High School where she lived her passion. She remained there until her retirement in 2010.

Cynthia always had zest for life and loved the Lord. After accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior, she became an active and faithful servant of Germantown Christian Assembly. She devoted much of her life spreading and witnessing the gospel of Jesus Christ, whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Cynthia also was employed with “WhoSoEver” Gospel Mission in Germantown where she was the manager, which she loved because it gave her the opportunity to share her enthusiasm for spreading the word of God. Cynthia also worked for “Visiting Angles” where she cared for the sick and shut in. She always had a smile on he face and a kind word to share.

Cynthia loved her nieces Amber, Jaime and Kenya and showing them she would rub noises, like Eskimo kisses, while singing songs. During many visits at the nursing home, Cynthia look forward to Wawa hazelnut coffee and cake saying, “This is just right” with a big smile on her face. This would really help brighten her day.

Preceded in death her beloved grandmother Jessie Goode whom she adored and spoke fondly of often.

Left to cherish he memories are her brother Gregory Barnes, two sisters Stephanie Kennedy and Charlene White, a sister in Christ Sheila Perrin. In-laws John and Marian Holly. Three nieces (as mentioned) Amber, Jaime and Kenya. Great nieces C’Ayra and Emani, Great nephews Sean and Kyree. Cousins and other relatives and a host of friends.
