The Life She Lived

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,

I Have Kept the Faith.” II Timothy 4:7

A TIME TO BE BORN

Jacqueline Denise Brown, affectionately known as “Denise” was born July 1, 1961 to Stafford Jackson and Doretha E. Ross in Washington, DC.

A TIME TO LOVE

Denise was previously married to James Larry and to that union two children were born, James Devon Larry III and Jayce Deonne Larry. On October 8, 2016 Denise was united in marriage to Gary Brown, the love of her life, her best friend, heart and spirit mender, provider, and protector. Gary and Denise laughed, loved, and lived life to the fullest. They enjoyed traveling and were most happy on a cruise ship!

A TIME TO GROW

Denise was educated through the Washington DC School District. She graduated from McKinley Technical High School and studied in the Music Major Program. Denise held the office of Vice President of Student Government. She was also a member of the Concert Choir, the District of Columbia Youth Chorale, the All-Eastern Division Highschool Chorus, and the District Civic Opera Association. During this time, Denise was also honored to be selected as a Debutante of Turner Memorial.

Denise continued her higher education at the University of Kansas where she studied Music Therapy and was also selected as an Alpha Phi Alpha Sweetheart.

A TIME TO SEEK

Denise accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the age of seven and joined the Greater Tried Stone Baptist Church. During her early years she served as the directress of the young adult choir and later served as assistant financial secretary of the church. Denise faithfully served the Lord “on purpose” with her God-given gifts and talents throughout her life. She was honored and humbled to serve as a First Lady, Deaconess, Choir Directress of multiple choirs including the award winning Chantress Choir, soloist, Praise & Worship ministry member, and member of the Flag Worship & Arts Ministry.

Denise was known and loved for her exemplary giftedness in mentorship. She made an indelible impact that cannot be denied. She affected and inspired the lives of those that she met for a moment and those she has known for a lifetime. Denise had a true heart of compassion for others. Her bright smile and joyous laughter were infectious to all. Denise’s very presence in a room shifted the atmosphere. The energy she exuded embraced you with a love like no other. Not to mention Denise had an undeniable fierce sense of fashion that complimented her striking beauty. To know Denise was to love her; she lived her life by example and left an impression on every heart that she encountered. What a gift to the world!

A TIME TO WORK

Denise was employed by US Airways. She later discovered her passion and exemplary skills in holding the position as Executive Assistant to three Montgomery County Commissioners. She went on to accept the position as Executive Assistant to the Secretary of Transportation at PennDot as well as the Executive Assistant to the General Manager of SEPTA. Denise was loved and valued by her employers, co-workers, and “cubs”, especially her beloved friend Leslie Richards (General Manager of SEPTA).

A TIME TO TRANSITION

Denise departed this life on July 17, 2020 and entered her heavenly rest. Without a doubt she heard the Lord say, well done my good and faithful servant.
