Mr. John David Mayo, son of the late JC and Catherine Mayo was born March 17, 1944 in Coatesville, PA. He moved to Philadelphia in 1956 and was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Christlike PG Faith Baptist Church where he was a dedicated member and later joined New Birth Baptist Church to only come back home to Christlike Baptist Church.
“Johnny” as he was affectionately called was known for his impeccable style. He loved cars, traveling, and fine dining. He had a passion for singing Gospel Music and he also enjoyed carpentry.
Johnny was a self-taught Chemist who had passion for Cosmetology. His entrepreneurial drive led him to opened his first hair salon at the young age of 16 on Columbia Ave in Philadelphia, PA. He later opened Pisces Hair Salon on Allegheny Ave where he not only beautified the community with his creative hands, he also launched his own hair care product line which was on the shelves of mostly all of the beauty supply stores in the area. He retired after serving over 30 years in the hair care industry. He was loved by many and his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He quietly departed this life on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Virginia, Michael, Jake and Richard Mayo, his son Kenny, and his first wife Geraldine.
“Johnny” is survived by his sister Elnor Whitehead, brothers, Robert and Arnold Mayo, his daughters Sherry, Angela, Monica, Rhonda, Sharonda, Angel, April, Michelle; his sons, John (Lil’ Johnny), Kareem, Kenny, and David (nephew) as well as host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He leaves to cherish special memories with Anne, Avon, and Tanya. The individual memories shared will never be forgotten.
