Leroy Gilmore

November 6, 1934 — November 28, 2019

Philadelphia

Leroy saw a hand we could not see that beckoned him away. He heard a voice we didn’t hear that said, “yon cannot stay”. And late Thursday on November 28th, 2019 in his home he passed away.

Leroy Gilmore was born on November 6th, 1934 to Mrs. Rosa Mobley in Gastonia North Carolina. He was the 6th child out of 11 children. Karen, Hensley, Queen, Ester, Jeter, Herman, Gilmore, Bernice Murray, Albert Baron (A.C.), Mable Lee Brown, Betty Mobley, Charles Mobley all proceeded him in death except his younger sister Christine Portlock Mobley. As a youth Leroy always wanted to better himself, so he could help his mother, so he joined the Infantry Army at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky. He was discharged on May 3rd, 1954.

After leaving the army, Leroy’s ambitious nature led him to continue in some kind of service. He became a Philadelphia Police Officer, showing you can achieve anything you want in life long as you work hard for it. You know he made his MOMMA PROUD> Later on in life Leroy joined a popular gospel group called THE MIGHTY CLOUDS OF JOY and ooh boy they could sing and brought so much joy to all that heard them. He always worked as a mechanic in which he was extremely talented at, always willing to help others with their cars and helping family and friends.

Leroy was a member of Tasker Street Missionary Baptist Church. My uncle really loved god and his family. Leroy leaves to cherish his memories is his sister Christine Portlock-Mobley, three cousins, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
