Louella Christian

October 3, 1929 — May 18, 2020

Louella Odessa Cooper Christian has passed and joined God, whom she loved so well. Mother Christian as many knew her transitioned on Monday, May 18th, 2020. Born October 3rd, 1929 to the late William Cooper and Mabel Brittingham Cooper in Cambridge, Maryland, she was the seventeenth of eighteen children of their union. Aunt Louella, affectionately called Aunt Lou, loved and served God for many years. She was the wife of the late Samuel Christian, whose surname she lived to the fullest.

Aunt Louella, while second youngest of her siblings, left Cambridge in approximately 1948 moving to Philadelphia in search of a better life and greater opportunity. She worked in commercial laundries while she studied and prepared for a career in Nursing, an occupation she remained in until her retirement. Always a hardworking and reliable person, she continued to support her father and siblings in Cambridge, a practice she maintained for decades. She was a responsible, caring individual whose boundless love for her family was unconditional and complete.

Aunt Louella’s faith, love, trust and devotion to God was unwavering. She had numerous spiritual daughters whom she mentored with wisdom and patience. There were many ministries birthed within the confines of her home: bible study prayer services and churches. She shared her immense love for God with her family, friends, and anyone whom she encountered. When asked how she was feeling, her reply was always the same, “Blessed by the Best”.

Her daughter, Diedre Cooper, and grandson, Isaiah Reed experienced her abundant love daily. Diedre is the biological daughter of Louella’s late and dearly departed brother Percy and his wife Diane. Their mother and daughter bond knew no limits from the time Diedre was a little girl until the day Aunt Louella went home to be with the Lord.

Aunt Louella leaves to cherish her loving memory, devoted daughter/niece: Diedre Cooper, grandson: Isaiah Reed, nieces: Sheena, Linda, Kim, nephews: Sheridan, Wayne, Keith, Kurt , one sister in law: Diane Cooper, and host of great nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by parents: William and Mable Cooper, sisters: Violet, Helen, Annabell, Charlotte, Harriet, Ollie, Mildred, Eloise, brothers: Walter, Robert, William Jr, Thomas, Calvin, Percy, Raymond

Lovingly and Prayerfully Submitted,
