Mildred Jordan

February 2, 1929 — July 14, 2020

There is a garden where Jesus is waiting.

Its a beautiful garden, a garden of prayer.

Mildred Muse Jordan was born on February 2nd, 1929. Early Tuesday morning, July 14, 2020, while she was sleeping, our Heavenly Father picked Mildred to join Him in that beautiful garden.

Mildred was the second child of nine children, born to the late Andrew and Rose Muse. As she was growing up, Mildred was affectionately known as “Kitty”, “Miss Kitty” or “KJ”. Early in life, Mildred was taught to help take care of the family. After her parents died, she became the matriarch, always caring, giving, helping and encouraging all she came into contact with.

Growing up in the East Falls section of Philadelphia in a small neighborhood nick- named the Burg (Roberts Avenue & Deacon Street), she attended the public schools in that area. The neighbors were very close and enjoyed being with each other. They formed a neighborhood baseball team where she met and married Lawrence Jordan, Sr. on August 25th, 1945. Lawrence departed on February 5th, 1999. They were married for 52 years. From this union five children were born: Lawrence Edward, Jr., Joyce Diane, Rose Mary, James Louis, and Mildred Geraldine.

Mildred was not afraid of hard work. She worked at Sam Bless Book Binding Company for many years. Even though she retired from Sam Bless, she loved children and went to work at the nursery in the VA on Wissahickon Avenue until she retired again.

Mildred loved the Lord and was baptized at Nazarene Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverends Adkins and Payne. She wanted her family to worship together and followed her children to Zion Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Gus Roman, she joined Zion Baptist Church January 21st, 1990. There, she became an active member of the Sun Light Club until her health would not allow her to continue.

Mildred enjoyed life with family and friends. It was exciting seeing mom and dad take the dance floor when the music started playing. Sometimes she would grab one of her children or dance by herself. Ski trips, cruises, bus trips, flying, or

riding on the train, she had no problem packing her bags and ready to go. At times, she became adventurous, she took skiing lessons at the ski lodge and even tried horseback riding when we took a trip to the Dude Ranch.

Mildred later attended Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, an Adult Daycare Center where she received excellent care and participated in many activities.

Mildred was a wonderful wife, mom, grandmom, great grandmom, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all!

The following sisters and brothers preceded her in death: Marion, Andrew (Lefty), Edward (Ed), Catherine (Doll), and Sandra.
