Nathaniel Hines Sr.

January 7, 1932 — October 6, 2019

Philadelphia

Nathaniel Hines Sr., the sixth of nine children, was born to Pinkney and Alvida Spain Hines on January 7th, 1932 in East Wilmington, North Carolina. Growing up, he was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He attended public schools in Wilmington and graduated from Williston Industrial High School with the Class of 1950. He enlisted in the United States Air Force immediately after and served faithfully for 22 years. While in the military he was stationed in far away countries including England, Germany and Vietnam and many states in the US. After retiring from the military, he went to work for the US Postal Service in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nathaniel retired from the Postal Service in Philadelphia in October 1992 after 20 years. Upon this retirement, he returned to his birthplace in Wilmington. After 10 years at home, he and his wife returned to Philadelphia to watch their family grow.

One of his proudest achievements after coming into the knowledge of Yisrael, was to show, help and tell his brothers and sisters that we are the descendants of the ancient nation of Yisrael and that the Old Testament is our true history.

Nathaniel was united in marriage to Rosa Patten also of Wilmington, North Carolina in July of 1952. They were blessed with a son and two daughters.

Nathaniel was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lily Mae Jones, Alvida Chadwick, Charles Hines, Elnora Willie, Franklin Hines, Vivian Manigo, and Bernice Collins.

Leaving to mourn their loss are his wife Rosa, a son Nathaniel Jr. (Robyn) and daughters Debra and Jacqueline Hines, all of Philadelphia. Also grandchildren Jared Hines (Betty) of Virginia; Jana, Jordan and Jayla McKinney; and Mahalie Hines. Also mourning are 2 great-granddaughters, Peyton and Chase Hines; a sister Annie Estelle Carter (Harold) of California; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, relatives, friends and the congregation of Beth Hephzibah of Philadelphia.

Father, we thank you so much for the life of Nathaniel. Today we celebrate all that he has given us and the legacy of his life on earth. Thank you for what a good father he has been, what a good teacher he has been. We remember how he always supported us through the difficult times and rejoiced with us in the good times. Finally Lord, we are so grateful for the blessing that was Nathaniel. We will always deeply treasure him in our hearts and give thanks for everything he has given us.

Amen

“There comes a time for all of us when we must say goodbye

but faith, hope, love and trust can never die.”

“Although the curtain falls at last, is that a cause to grieve?

The future’s fairer than the past, if only we believe.”

”And trust in God’s Eternal Care, so when the Master calls

Let’s say that Life is still more fair although the curtain falls.”
