Rose M Brown

November 11, 1943 ~ June 2, 2020 (age 76)

Obituary

Rose M. Brown was born on November 11, 1943 to the late Elsie Lewis and Ferdinand  Brown, in Kingston Jamaica. She departed this life on June 2, 2020 at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia Pa.

Rose was courageous, in every sense of the word. In 1968, at age 25 she won a culinary contest in Jamaica, which enabled her to make her way to America. With only a suitcase and a dream, she was determined to change her life and the lives of her family. She worked hard and within 5 years purchased her first home, where her children, brother and mother came to start a new life.

Rose was educated in Jamaica’s primary school system; graduated from  Philadelphia Community College and completed her degree at Widener University to become a RN.

“Rosie”, as she was affectionately called at times, was phenomenal; the matriarch of her family. She was a mother, daughter, sister, but first and foremost; she was a Christian. She loved the Lord, like nobody’s business.  One of her fondest memories was the day she gave her heart to Jesus, at a little church in Kingston, Jamaica. It’s a story she often told. She always talked about living her life for God. She served in many churches during her life; singing on the choir, working with the youth and supporting the evangelism team.

A loving mother with old school values, Rosie was one of a kind. Loved you to death, but always believed in discipline. Later in her life she opened her home and her heart to foster children, and to this day they still talk about how she made a difference in their lives.

Rose will always be remembered for her words of love, faith and optimism. She gave from her heart, without looking for anything in return. She would often say it, and sometimes sing it; “Jesus will make a way some how.”

She leaves to morn: her son Richard, her daughter Roxanne, her brother Selvin, her grandchildren: Tulene, and Reanna, and a host of family n friends who will miss her dearly.
