William McGhee

January 15, 1932 — June 7, 2020

In Loving memory and honor, the family respectfully say farewell to William A McGhee, better known as "Pee-Wee". Son of the late Malcom and Bessie McGhee.  William A. McGhee was born January 15, 1932 in Lunenburg County, Virginia and departed June 7, 2020 in Chester, Pennsylvania at the age 88 along with his traveling partner Dash , his dog. William and Dash was two peas in a pod always taking walks together and traveling up and down the road. Dash was on duty protecting William up to the end.

William moved to Pennsylvania as an adult where he worked and retired from Harry Kravitz as a Heavy Equipment Operator. William was a hard worker; it was impossible to keep him off the job. Once he retired from Kravitz Company he continued to get up every morning checking on the guys making sure the job was complete. Williams saying was “I cannot sit in this house because it will take the life out of me”. One thing the family knew for sure, he was Jack of all trades and master of none, meaning he could do everything plumbing, electrical, carpentry and car repairs. He had the master skills of getting things done for family and friends.

William  was a man with few words but when he spoke he spoke with authority and power. He loved his church home, St. Luke Community Christian Church. William used his craft to continue to work in the community and at the church cutting grass and doing any repairs that needed to be completed. His church family had a heart for him and honored him for the work he was doing in the community and in the church. William was a great supporter and protector to his family.

Remembered by Kimberly Harris “her problem solver” and loving companion, if ever there was a problem, he would jump right up to fix it.

As a Grandfather – “Granddaddy” is remembered as being quiet, caring, and giving. We knew when we saw Granddaddy, he would give us a little something to go to the store for candy.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching wrestling, car races, and football -Eagles of course.

William had one brother George McGhee and one sister Margaret McGhee precede him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory Kimberly Harris who shared twenty years with William, two sons, William McGhee Philadelphia, PA and Derrick McGhee St Petersburg FL, 5 daughters-Cynthia Lamey, Deborah McGhee both of St Petersburg FL, Regina Hill (Phil Hill) of Dover DE , Anita Minniefield, and Serhera Harris both of Chester, PA.
